briar was the result of a naturally-occurring (and predictable) breeding between shrew and beelzebub, two catz who were madly in love, despite shrew also being in kahoots with beelzebub's brother, asmodeus. he was shrew's second kitten, the first being briar's half-sister and cousin, shock. such things happen when your mom is in love with your dad and your uncle.

despite the awkwardness, briar grew up loved by his entire family, and is a rather interesting blend of all of them in personality. surrounded by the conflicting influences of beelzebub, a pacifistic role model, and asmodeus, a force of chaos, briar developed into an individual who tries to maintain the exterior of a "super cool bad boy", but it's simply a facade doing a not-so-great job of shielding his soft and tender inner self. he often seems torn on whether or not he wants to expose himself as such by playing with toys or having friendly interactions with others -- half of the time, he longingly observes petz playing from a distance, while the rest of the time he will join in while either pretending he's not enjoying himself or really playing up on the competitive streak to make himself seem more "hardcore". despite his efforts to appear unpleasant, briar's true nature of kindness has a way of attracting other petz, especially younger ones, which leaves him a bit perplexed as to how they're seeing through him.
